Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 November 2026 — draft pending legal review.

We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and why, who we share it with, and how you control it.

1. What we collect

  • Account: phone number, username, display name, and your photo and bio if you add them. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive what that service shares.
  • Your onboarding answers: reason for walking, obstacles, daily goal, date of birth (to check your age), and gender, height and weight if you enter them (optional, only to estimate your plan and distance).
  • Activity: step counts, their source (such as Health Connect or Apple Health) and device. We don't read any other health data.
  • Location: only during an outdoor walk, to draw your route and measure distance, and in the background only if you turn that on. Your route is private by default; when you share it, we hide its start and end.
  • Social: friends and requests, messages (text, photos and voice messages), posts, comments and reactions, reports and blocks.
  • Device: notification token, session and security data.

2. Why we use it

  • To run your account and count your steps, goals, streaks and challenges.
  • For the social features you choose (friends, chats, posts, and Nearby — approximate distance bands only, if you turn on being visible).
  • Safety: preventing cheating and fraud, and handling reports.
  • To send the notifications you control in Settings.

We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers. The app has no ads and no ad tracking.

3. Who we share it with

  • Other users: only what you choose to share, with the audience you choose.
  • Service providers who run the app for us: hosting and database (Supabase), an SMS provider to send your verification code, Apple and Google when you sign in with them, and the notifications and updates service (Expo).
  • Authorities, when legally required.

Data may be stored on servers outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

4. Your rights and choices

  • Export your data: Settings → Privacy & data → Export my data.
  • Edit your profile and privacy settings (who can message you, typing indicator, read receipts, online status, Nearby visibility).
  • Turn off step, location or notification permissions in your device settings at any time.
  • Delete your account permanently in Settings → Privacy & data.

5. Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account we delete your profile, photos, steps, sessions, devices, relationships, posts and messages (your messages show as deleted in other people's chats). Challenges you created continue for their other members, without your name. We keep reports about harmful content, with a copy of the reported content, to protect users, and limited administrative records that contain no health data, as the law requires. Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days. You can also ask us to delete your account without the app: sabqsteps.com/delete-account.

6. Children

The app is for people aged 13 and over.

7. Changes and contact

We may update this policy and will tell you about significant changes in the app. For any question or request about your data, use Help & support in the app or email support@sabqsteps.com.
